8 beta/preview; source-documentation evidence
Package applicability is under review; follow the stated version and platform limits.
Before starting
Obtain the InductEx® 8 package for the intended operating system and architecture through the authorised download channel. Check its release notes and supplied checksum before installation.
Install the supported SUN Magnetics Universal Licence Daemon, version 1.5.2 or newer according to the maintained manual. InductEx® packages do not install or upgrade the shared daemon.
Keep the issued InductEx® licence file and a writable directory for example inputs and outputs. A licence for another SUN Magnetics product alone does not authorise InductEx®.
Match the package to your distribution and runtime libraries. A portable tar archive does not resolve dependencies or establish desktop integration.
Install and launch
- Install or upgrade the shared daemon using its supported Linux package. Preserve other products' licence files and allow existing simulations to finish before a shared-service upgrade.
- For a DEB/RPM release, use the distribution package manager with dependency resolution. Select exactly the reviewed downloaded package; the command examples use placeholder filenames that must be replaced.
- If the intended release instead supplies the standalone .run installer, follow that release's instructions and checksum check. It manages its own installation and can migrate an existing native package; do not casually mix installation methods.
- Start InductEx® Studio from the installed application launcher. The documented default prefix is /usr/local/share/sunmagnetics/inductex; command links are installed under /usr/local/bin.
- Check the licence in Studio, then use Help > Examples / Templates > Copy to Folder for microstrip, or copy the entire examples/inductance/microstrip directory into a writable location.
Command-line checks
Run these checks in a new terminal after installation. A version response confirms executable discovery, not a valid extraction or simulation licence.
# Choose the command for your distribution; replace the filename.
sudo apt install ./inductex-package.deb
# OR
sudo dnf install ./inductex-package.rpm
inductex --version
inductex --build-infoCheck the first run
The installed Studio starts and reports a valid InductEx® licence. The CLI version/build identity matches the intended package.
Follow the linked microstrip starting guide on a complete writable copy: inspect process/layout/netlist references, check and run, then read the current completion state and fresh solution artifact with units.
Installation success and a completed example do not establish mesh convergence, general physical accuracy or qualification of another operating system.
If the problem remains
For missing GTK/OpenGL dependencies, retain the package-manager diagnostic and repair the installation using the intended package and distribution repositories. Avoid copying arbitrary shared libraries into the application directory.
If a command resolves to an older copy, inspect the resolved path and use the intended installed executable. A current CLI does not by itself prove that the desktop launcher targets the same installation.
For a licence or daemon error, inspect the reported detail, configured licence filename and daemon location. Use Tools > Preferences > General, then Help > About > Retry Licence Check after correcting the setup.
For a missing process, layout or netlist file, restore the complete example directory and check IXI-relative paths. Keep output files in a writable working directory.

- Linux host installation, supported distribution/ABI combinations, command/desktop integration and first-run behaviour remain to be exercised on the intended release.
- The maintained package declarations support dependency-resolving DEB/RPM installation. This guide does not execute a package manager or switch an existing host to standalone management.
- Deployment-reference applicability rechecked on 4 November 2026; packaging/document registration changes do not constitute an installation or lifecycle walkthrough.
