# A daemon upgrade is installed, but the old version is still running

Finish dependent jobs and restart the broker through the supported upgrade procedure. Replacing files does not update an existing process.

## Compatibility

InductEx® 8 / JoSIM®-Pro 2.9.0 source

Published guidance with release-applicability limits. Confirm package applicability before following this guide.

## Upgrade safely

1. Record the installed and running versions. Obtain the supported daemon installer for the target platform.
2. Wait for all SUN Magnetics simulations and extractions using the broker to finish, then close the applications.
3. Back up the existing licence files and licence-path settings. Preserve files for other products.
4. Follow the supported installer and broker-restart procedure. If required by that installer, restart the computer before reopening clients.
5. Check the running version and retry each product's licence check.

## Why this matters

An old broker can remain alive after new binaries are installed. The maintained documentation requires daemon 1.5.2 or newer for additive licence-file enrolment used by these clients; confirm the supported combination for the actual release.

Do not manually mix individual daemon binaries or assume installing InductEx® also upgrades the shared daemon. The default broker is app-launched; do not assume an operating-system service exists merely because older wording calls it a service.
