# Set a custom daemon or licence-file path

The daemon setting identifies an executable; the licence setting identifies a file. Keep these paths separate and use absolute paths.

## Compatibility

InductEx® 8 / JoSIM®-Pro 2.9.0 source

Published guidance with release-applicability limits. Confirm package applicability before following this guide.

## Daemon executable

Set SMLICENSED_PATH to the full path ending in smlicensed.exe on Windows or smlicensed on Linux/macOS. A directory path or a path to sm_license.txt will not identify the executable. Restart the client after changing its environment.

Studio also checks SMLICENSED_EXE before SMLICENSED_PATH. Clear an unintended Studio-only override when Core and Studio appear to use different daemons.

## InductEx® licence file

In Studio's General preferences, set LicenseFileName to the absolute path of the intended licence file. Core reads the corresponding setting from .sunmagnetics/ixcfg.ini in the user's home directory. Keep a different product's licence file and configure a separate file rather than overwriting it.

## JoSIM®-Pro licence file

The maintained manual documents the command below to save the licence path once. Run it by itself, then restart the GUI. Adding -v exits for version display before saving the path.

```text
josim-pro-cli -l /absolute/path/to/sm_license.txt
```

## Verify

Check the reported running daemon version, retry the product licence check and run a small supplied example only after authorisation succeeds. A path being syntactically valid does not prove the file is readable or grants this product.

## Sources and verification details

Recorded inputs/builds only. Complete walkthrough and final-package acceptance remain separate.
