# Install and launch InductEx® on Windows

Install the shared licence daemon and the Windows MSI, start InductEx® Studio, then check the installation with a writable copy of the microstrip example.

## Compatibility

8 beta/preview; source-documentation evidence

Published guidance with release-applicability limits. Confirm package applicability before following this guide.

## Before starting

Obtain the InductEx® 8 package for the intended operating system and architecture through the authorised download channel. Check its release notes and supplied checksum before installation.

Install the supported SUN Magnetics Universal Licence Daemon, version 1.5.2 or newer according to the maintained manual. InductEx® packages do not install or upgrade the shared daemon.

Keep the issued InductEx® licence file and a writable directory for example inputs and outputs. A licence for another SUN Magnetics product alone does not authorise InductEx®.

## Install and launch

1. Close SUN Magnetics applications before upgrading the shared daemon. Preserve existing licence files and application settings; follow the supported daemon installer instructions.
2. Run the reviewed InductEx® MSI. Its default application directory is C:\Program Files\SUN Magnetics\InductEx®. Select the Start Menu/Desktop and command-line PATH options you need.
3. Where the reviewed MSI offers the file-association page, choose the file types you want Studio to open. The maintained defaults select .ixi, .ldf and .msh; .gds is optional and unchecked. Leave GDS unchecked to retain an existing GDS editor such as KLayout. Windows may still ask you to choose the default application in Settings > Apps > Default apps.
4. Launch InductEx® Studio from its installed shortcut. The GUI executable is InductExStudio.exe in the installation bin directory.
5. Review the licence status. If a licence must be issued, Help > About > Generate System ID is the documented route; keep the resulting identifier private and share it only through the requested support process.
6. Choose Help > Examples / Templates, select microstrip and use Copy to Folder. Keep all copied dependencies together, open the copied project and follow the microstrip starting guide.

## Command-line checks

Run these checks in a new terminal after installation. A version response confirms executable discovery, not a valid extraction or simulation licence.

```text
& "C:\Program Files\SUN Magnetics\InductEx\bin\inductex.exe" --version
& "C:\Program Files\SUN Magnetics\InductEx\bin\inductex.exe" --build-info
```

## Check the first run

The installed Studio starts and reports a valid InductEx® licence. The CLI version/build identity matches the intended package.

Follow the linked microstrip starting guide on a complete writable copy: inspect process/layout/netlist references, check and run, then read the current completion state and fresh solution artifact with units.

Installation success and a completed example do not establish mesh convergence, general physical accuracy or qualification of another operating system.

## If the problem remains

If an existing terminal cannot find the command, open a new terminal or use the actual installed bin path. The commands above assume the default installation directory.

Launching an installed executable from Program Files is normal. Saving or generating example outputs there may fail without write permission; use Copy to Folder rather than elevating an ordinary calculation.

For a licence or daemon error, inspect the reported detail, configured licence filename and daemon location. Use Tools > Preferences > General, then Help > About > Retry Licence Check after correcting the setup.

For a missing process, layout or netlist file, restore the complete example directory and check IXI-relative paths. Keep output files in a writable working directory.

- The legacy installation chapter describes copied user examples and contains an imprecise Program Files execution warning. This guide uses the maintained Studio Copy to Folder workflow and distinguishes executable launch from output write access.
- No Windows install, upgrade, shortcut persistence or first-run walkthrough was performed for this draft. Final MSI identity, signing and migration behaviour remain release checks.
- The file-association choices are derived from the changed maintained installer reference. Their actual final MSI page, OS-default behaviour and native file launches remain unexercised in this KB installation guide.
- Deployment-reference applicability rechecked on 4 November 2026; packaging/document registration changes do not constitute an installation or lifecycle walkthrough.
