# Which dielectric settings matter for capacitance?

Use the actual dielectric stack and extraction mode. Check EpsilonR and the environment above and below the structure.

## Compatibility

8 beta/preview

Published guidance with release-applicability limits. Confirm package applicability before following this guide.

## Check the physical model

1. Confirm that the requested mode calculates the intended electrostatic or frequency-dependent quantity.
2. Set each relevant isolation layer's relative permittivity from the process information rather than assuming vacuum.
3. Review the environment above and below the model and the conductor/reference definitions.
4. When comparing another solver, match geometry, dielectric stack, grounding and matrix convention before comparing entries.

## Avoid changing unrelated calculations

A magnetoquasistatic inductance calculation and an electrostatic capacitance calculation make different physical approximations. Changing a dielectric constant is not a general fix for an MQS inductance discrepancy.

A Maxwell capacitance matrix and a circuit representation need consistent sign/reference conventions. No conversion recipe is inferred from an unresolved comparison in the support history.
